Happy Mother’s Day!

I’ll be honest. I’m not much of a fan of the days that have been created by card and gift manufacturers. Valentine’s Day. Father’s Day. Mother’s Day. Rather than choosing one day a year to celebrate the special people in our lives, I prefer the idea of making our loved ones feel special in permanence. Doing something you know they will like. Surprising them. Buying a little present when you see it, not because a certain day dictates you should.

That said, given that it’s Mother’s Day in Australia (where all the Three Little Pigs’ mothers reside), it seems like an ideal time to send a shout out to our mums. As PerfectlyRandom pointed out in her most recent post, we do talk about motherhood a lot on this blog. But whilst none of us has yet chosen to taken on the challenges and joys of motherhood ourselves, we are in unanimous appreciation of those three ladies we respectively call Mum…

To our Mums,

We know that our life paths have taken us further from you at various points in time than you may have wished, and we thank you for your understanding and acceptance of our desire to carve our own paths. We thank you for the countless sacrifices you have made along the way, for being there for us through thick and thin. We thank you for your endless support even in situations when you don’t agree with our decisions, for letting us learn from our own mistakes and being there to pick up the pieces when it doesn’t work out the way we hoped it would. And we thank you for the unwavering love you give us every day of the year. We love you with all of our hearts.
