It’s the little things (that make a hotel great)

Er…so you may have noticed I let the team down last week and missed my turn to post *hangs head in shame*. A last minute work trip to NYC really threw a spanner in the works, but hey, there are worse things than being upgraded to business class and going to my favourite city in the world.

I once read a blog post which basically said that the two things that made a hotel great were the bed and the bathroom. Um, no $hit, Sherlock. That’s just a hotel room, innit?

For me, it’s the little things that make a hotel great. The perfect pillow. The handwritten message from the manager. The complimentary chocolate truffles in a cute little box tied with pretty ribbon.

In steamy NYC last week, I had the pleasure of staying at the Mondrian Soho, which had so many little things that made it great, I almost didn’t want to leave.

There were fluffy, perfect pillows – with a cute note.

There was crystal to sip your beverages from.

There was an iPad for all your needs – maps, wake up calls, beautician bookings, room service.

There was cute stationery by the phone.

And help at hand for any ailment you might have.

Of course it also helped being located in the heart of Soho, with a fantastic restaurant and hotel bar, but hey. It’s always the little things that make me fall in love.
